Peer Review Policy

Overview of the Review Process

Trends in Biomaterials and Artificial Organs (TIBAO) employs a Single-Blind Peer Review process. This means that the identities of the reviewers are concealed from authors throughout the review process to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the scientific merit.

Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, every manuscript undergoes an initial internal assessment by the Editorial Office:

  • Scope Fit: Is the research relevant to biomaterials, tissue engineering, or artificial organs?

  • Plagiarism Check: All manuscripts are screened using a Plagiarism Checking software (iThenticate/Turnitin or similar) to ensure originality.

  • Technical Compliance: Does the paper meet the journal's formatting and ethical requirements?

Manuscripts that fail this screening are "Desk Rejected" within 5 days so authors can submit elsewhere without delay.

The Review Procedure

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to an Associate Editor, who invites a minimum of two independent subject matter experts to review the work.

Reviewers are asked to evaluate the manuscript based on:

  • Originality: Does the work provide new insights or significant improvements to the field?

  • Methodological Rigor: Are the experimental designs, statistical analyses, and ethical approvals (human/animal) sound?

  • Clarity: Is the manuscript well-written, and are the figures/tables clear and necessary?

  • Impact: Is the conclusion supported by the data presented?

Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept: The manuscript is ready for publication (rare after the first round).

  • Minor Revision: The authors must make small changes or clarifications.

  • Major Revision: Significant flaws were found, requiring new data, analysis, or substantial rewriting.

  • Reject: The work is fundamentally flawed or does not meet the journal's quality threshold.
