Coleus barbatus roots have been analysed for its phytochemical and antimicrobial properties. The roots extracts have shown the presence of many phytochemicals which have direct impact on the health of humans and other animals.  The extracts have been analysed for the antimicrobial property against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas fluorescein, and Kelebsiella pneumonia in which it had been found that few extracts have much more antimicrobial potential as compared to the standard drug. Also the root extracts suppress the growth of many fungi viz, Aspergillus flavs, Aspergillus parasiticus, Trichoderma rubrum, Microsporum gypseum. The ethanolic root extract by spectroscopic techniques, IR, NMR, Mass spectrometry, made available the presence of two compounds in the form of Froskolin and a pericyclic compound.
