Trends in Biomaterials and Artificial Organs is a peer-reviewed international journal incorporating research mainly related to Biomaterials, Artificial Organs, Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Drug Delivery. The journal publishes Original Research Articles, Short Communications, Review Articles and Letter to Editor, in the English language. The focus of the publication is centred on the synthesis, characterization and biocompatibility studies of biomaterials and the design, validation and performance evaluation of medical devices. Biomaterials include synthetic materials falling in the classes of metals, alloys, polymers and ceramics, as well as natural materials like chitosan, silk, collagen and processed animal and human tissues. Composite forms of these materials and nanostructures have made their impact in this area and fabrication techniques like 3D bioprinting are changing the scenario. Innovative devices, implants and prostheses are being developed, spanning across various medical specialities like cardiovascular, neurological, orthopaedic, maxillofacial, spinal and ophthalmic, along with dentistry. The topics of interest extend to scaffolds fabrication and tissue regeneration aspects and to diagnostic devices and drug delivery systems.

Trends in Biomaterials and Artificial Organs provides a platform for sharing the state-of-the-art information on the role of biocompatible materials and their structures and functional ensembles, in enhancing the quality of life. The objective of the journal is to act as a catalyst in the rapid growth of Biomedical research and support its translation to products useful for healthcare.

Section Policies

Editorials are by invitations only by the editor. They are not peer-reviewed but are indexed. Original Research Articles, Short Communications, Review Articles and Research Letters are open submissions, submitted following the author instructions and are indexed and peer-reviewed. Letters to the Editor is not peer reviewed but are indexed.

Peer Review Process

The journals peer review submission system is located at
This is a web-based submission and review system. Authors may submit manuscripts and track their progress through the system to publication. Reviewers can download manuscripts and submit their opinions to the editor. Editors can manage the whole submission/review/revise/publish process.

All submitted manuscripts are reviewed initially by the editor. Manuscripts are evaluated according to the following criteria: material is original and timely, writing is clear, study methods are appropriate, data are valid, conclusions are reasonable and supported by the data, information is important, and topic meets the focus and scope of the journal. Manuscripts with insufficient priority for publication are rejected promptly. Other manuscripts are sent to expert consultants for peer review. Peer reviewer identities are kept confidential, but author identities are made known to reviewers. The existence of a manuscript under review is not revealed to anyone other than peer reviewers and editorial staff. Reviewers, whose names are not normally disclosed to the authors, will study all contributions which the Editor deems to be of sufficient significance and interest to be sent for peer review. The criteria by which this initial assessment is made include relevance to the scope of the journal, the originality of the work and its significance to the broad development of the field of biomaterials, artificial organs, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Normally a manuscript will be assigned to two reviewers and the review normally takes 30 days.

Publication Frequency

Trends in Biomaterials & Artificial Organs is a peer reviewed journal publishing four issues per volume, per year by the Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs (India).
