Radiography is the art and science of making radiographs by the exposure of film to x-rays. Image receptor is a medium that changes X-ray beam into visible image.Image receptors has evolved in leaps and bounds from the time of discovery of x-radiations by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen in 1895. This article presents evolution and different types of image receptors from the conventional to the digital modes. Today an array of image receptors is available for dentist to confirm the clinical findings and thereby arrive at a clear diagnosis.
